Program urges Montana girls to flex math muscle. The MIT Women's Initiative and The Montana Governor and First Lady's Science and Math Initiative
| January 8, 2008 |
When Roshini Zachariah was in middle school, she was told girls couldn't excel at math.
It's a good thing she didn't listen. Zachariah is now a junior at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she's studying bioengineering.
Zachariah and fellow MIT student Megan Pilkington are part of the MIT Women's Initiative, which encourages girls to take challenging math and science classes and consider careers in engineering.
The girls' interests and attitude are exactly what Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer and his wife, Nancy Schweitzer, hope will come from their Montana Governor and First Lady's Science and Math Initiative. http://opi.mt.gov/pdf/mathscience/MT ... tiative.pdf
