Starting up: It's not easy, but Boise can create a better economic culture

When asked by a reporter, "What do you regret in your business career?" J.R. Simplot, Idaho's premier entrepreneur replied, "I didn't think big enough." Considering the source, that was a powerful statement.
On a Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce junket to Northern California in 1983, Hewlett Packard hosted a cocktail party and exhibit for the visitors from Idaho. I told my salesman to think of something intelligent to say, because we might have 20 seconds to talk with David Packard, one of HP's founders, who was in attendance.
