How to approach a potential donor

Nonprofits do best when their mission is clear and their request well-presented.
"If it's just a pup tent out there, you don't know where your money is going," said Jim Roscoe, chairman of the Charles M. Bair Family Trust, one of the most generous donors in the state.
Then, once the connection is made, stewardship serves as the glue. Some donors like to see how their dollars are making a difference. Others appreciate knowing how charitable giving can dovetail with the state's tax credit and a new pension rollover.
