Sidney, Montana Student, Kendra Kallevig Wins University of Montana Award for Leadership

University of Montana senior Kendra Kallevig of Sidney has been selected to receive UM’s fall 2007 Outstanding Student Leader Award.
Kallevig, who majors in environmental studies at UM, was chosen from among 21 students who were nominated for the award this semester. Nominations came from UM faculty members, students and staff who noted the nominees’ excellence in service, diversity, impact on the University community, and ethical and creative leadership.
Kallevig received the award for her extensive roles with Students for Economic and Social Justice and her work as the Northwest regional organizer for United States Against Sweatshops, as well as other service and leadership activities.
She has provided student leadership for Missoula’s PEAS farm, which produces organic food for area low-income families, UM’s Sustainability Initiatives Team and many other campus organizations.
Kallevig also was recognized for her scholastic and leadership achievements in 2006-07 when she was awarded a Udall Scholarship.
She and all students nominated for UM’s Outstanding Student Leader Award will be honored at the Spring Student Recognition Ceremony, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in the University Center Ballroom.
