Cancer survivor pitches 'virtual' drug firms

Marty Tenenbaum is an e-commerce wizard in a dysfunctional drug-development world.
Now Tenenbaum, a metastatic melanoma survivor and chairman of the online high-tech link CommerceNet in Palo Alto, wants to adopt the Internet's efficiencies to connect and manage virtual companies of drug researchers. He argues that "virtual pharmas" can shorten the time it takes to find out which drugs work -- and which don't -- and cut the cost of health care.
