Wyoming’s Fist Commercial Colocation Data Center Goes Green. A state historically known for minerals production leads green data center push.

November 28, 2007View for printing

Green House Data http://www.greenhousedata.com announced its plan to develop the state’s first commercial enterprise-class data center facility in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The company’s ‘green’ data center facility is one of the nation’s only 100% renewable energy powered data centers. However, the data center’s ‘greenness’ doesn’t equate to higher costs. Exactly opposite, the company is investing in energy efficiency technologies in order to be the region’s low cost facility that happens to have a zero carbon footprint.

“We are really excited to launch Green House Data in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This first 10,000 sq. ft. prototype facility will be the headquarters for the company’s planned nationwide expansion,” said Shawn Mills, president of Green House Data. “The business climate, broadband infrastructure, renewable (wind) energy availability and rural nature make this the perfect proving ground,” he continued.

Green House Data is building a facility that will be 40-60% more energy efficient than similarly sized data centers due to its investment in water-side economizers, highly efficient IT infrastructure, and geothermal cooling systems. This investment in ‘green’ efficiency will be passed on to its customers in the form of significant cost savings.

“Regional companies now have access to a high-performance, stable and reliable data center that allows companies to share the high costs of housing and managing critical data infrastructure in a socially responsible footprint,” stated Mr. Mills, one of the company’s founders. “ By using our secure, high-availability data center business owners can focus on their core competencies without worrying about the growing complexity of a data center.”

The data center facility is engineered to 99.9% availability, a Tier-3 standard. The facility will incorporate redundant bandwidth, cooling and power to give regional and socially responsible national companies a place that they can securely and confidently house their servers, storage, and networking requirements.

The company’s facility will open in the first quarter of 2008. With only one month of pre-sales activity, Green House Data has already received commitment from seen companies to move into the facility. The company anticipates being 25% full upon opening the facility. To learn more about Green House Data, go to www.greenhousedata.com
