Montana Start Up Receives National Enviro Award. Sweet Onion Creations of Bozeman chosen as greenest new business in US

Sweet Onion Creations http://www.sweetonioncreations.com/ , a Montana-based company that builds 3-dimensional architecture models, computer renderings, and presentation websites received StartupNation’s Greenest Startup Business Award for their efforts to reduce environmental impact. The award was announced on MSN.com.

This nationwide contest was sponsored by StartupNation.com, Dell Computers, Southwest Airlines and Microsoft Small Business. Thousands of first year businesses from across the country participated in the competition by detailing ways they are trying to minimize their environmental footprint. The winners were chosen by a panel of entrepreneur judges.

“We are humbled to win the Green Award from StartupNation,” said co-founder Jake Cook. “Our clients in the architecture industry are ahead of the curve for sustainable designs. We felt it was important for Sweet Onion Creations to integrate low-impact practices into our business DNA from the get go.”

At the heart of Sweet Onion’s offerings are architectural models utilizing an innovative 3-dimensional printing technology that eliminates caustic chemicals, ABS plastic waste and other environmentally hazardous models associated with traditional rapid-prototyping.

Sweet Onion Creations’ efforts to reduce its carbon footprint include purchasing Green Tags, which are renewable energy credits generated using Montana wind farms. Each Green Tag purchased offsets 1,400 lbs. of carbon pollution. These are applied against Sweet Onion’s electrical use and the carbon output from shipping architecture models around the country. Every Sweet Onion project includes a minimum of one Green Tag.

Additionally, the company supports green building practices through its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Discount Program, where any architecture model, computer rendering, or presentation website used as a tool going for the US Green Building Council’s LEED certification is automatically eligible for a 10% discount.

Sweet Onion Creations, founded in 2006, builds premium 3-dimensional environmentally benign models, along with computer renderings and architecture websites. The company collaborates with architecture firms and developers around the country via its website: http://www.SweetOnionCreations.com. Guided by the mantra of “ideas you touch”, Sweet Onion builds the tools necessary for explaining the future.

The smallest ‘green’ buildings in America from Sweet Onion Creations of Bozeman, Montana

Sweet Onion http://www.sweetonioncreations.com/ works hard to limit the environmental impact of every step it takes to produce its product: 3-D architectural models.

As attention on global warming and other critical environmental issues mounts, interest in the perceived marketing benefits of "going green" is on the rise as well. That has many entrepreneurs asking, "What can my business do to make a difference?"

The winner of the Greenest category in the StartupNation Home-Based 100 rankings posed that question before launching the business in February 2007. The co-founders of Sweet Onion Creations, Jake Cook and his wife, Lee, embody the higher-road ideals of running a business that’s green and growing.
