Sustaining the Legacy. Five Years After the Games, Olympic Spirit and Infrastructure Still Ring True in Salt Lake, Utah

Before winning the Olympic bid, before Mitt, before 9/11, before the torch and well before the near-perfect execution of the Games, forward-thinking Utahns took a gamble, committing to state-of-the-art athletic facilities and infrastructure without the guarantee that the five intertwining rings would ever grace the Beehive State.
That gamble continues to pay off. Nearly five years after the Games, these costly facilities, including the Utah Olympic Park and the Olympic Oval, are churning out Olympic hopefuls while balancing development and introductory programs with tourist dollars. Though the expense of maintaining such facilities is sometimes a challenge, the post-Olympic infrastructure appears to be not merely sustaining, but thriving.
