'Higher' ed refers to price you pay if you don't get a college degree

Experts say a four-year college degree translates into additional earnings of $1.2 million over a graduate's career.

Mark Kantrowitz, publisher of the financial aid Web site finaid.org, did his best to estimate how much a degree would have to cost before it would no longer be a sound investment. The magic number, according to Kantrowitz: $520,000, or $130,000 a year.
