Billings College of Technology pushes new nursing program

A two-year registered nursing degree at the College of Technology http://www.msubillings.edu/ could move another step closer to reality today.
The college proposes adding a six-semester associate of science registered nursing degree to its medical programs.
The proposed degree will be discussed before the education committee of the Montana State Board of Nursing in Great Falls. If approved by that committee, the proposal goes to the full nursing board for a vote Wednesday, said John Cech, dean of the College of Technology.

Gazette Opinion: COT builds pathways to healthier work force
The number of registered nurses being trained in Montana annually is fewer than the number of nursing jobs opening in the state. Many nurses are nearing retirement age at a time when the general population is aging and needs greater levels of nursing care. By 2025, Montana is projected to be the third-oldest state. The shortage of nurses is nationwide, so Montana can't count on recruiting nurses from elsewhere.
