Director and Vice-President of the legendary National Geographic Explorers Club, veteran of Mount Everest ("Into Thin Air" attending physician), NASA consultant, surgeon and masterful storyteller, Kamler has climbed, dived and trekked through some of the most treacherous and remote regions of the world. Author of "Surviving The Extremes," Kamler discusses what happens when human bodies are pushed to their limits. Kamler explores the human body’s reactions to heat, cold, pressure, starvation, exhaustion and exposure, and he reveals the human body’s miraculous survival strategies. His multimedia presentation will take the audience on a scientific nail-biter that goes beyond "reality" television shows and proves what survival really means. At the core is a quest for the will to survive and why some can and others cannot summon the power at their moment of greatest need. October 17, 7:00 p.m. Born into Brothels @ Procrastinator Theatre – FREE Born into Brothels depicts the lives of several children who live in the notorious red light district of Calcutta, India, where their mothers work as prostitutes. The film won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2005. Featuring the premier of The Water Carriers, a captivating film about a MSU student’s journey to bring clean drinking water to more than 1,000 school children in Kenya. The film documents challenges including language barriers, cultural stereotypes and the pitfalls of international development work. The evening includes a riveting dance and drumming performance.
