Montana Art Economics: As Supply Increases So Does Demand

Montana artists represent the state with such economic panache that we might dare to wonder if art is just another form of business. A 2003 survey estimates that artists impact Montana’s economics to the tune of $233 million annually. The attendance at art events from Missoula to Bozeman to Helena to Billings cannot be understated.
The fact that the arts generate economic power is not in dispute, but the scope and influence of artists and art organizations is a subject as grand as the definition of art itself. (Sources will be abbreviated after their first use and direct quotes are so noted).
