SmartData Technology Tested at Montana Technology Enterprise Center (MonTEC) in Missoula
| September 18, 2007 |
The history of warfare is often the history of missed opportunity and flawed tactical decisions based on faulty intelligence. At the Battle of Gettysburg, for example, General Robert E. Lee had lost contact with his “eyes” when his cavalry scouts under the command of General J.E.B. Stuart failed to link up with Lee’s army until the third day of the battle. More recently, the fog of war turned a couple of mishaps in the Somali capital Mogadishu into a disaster for the United States forces who had come to the country on a humanitarian mission.
This week in Missoula, a collaboration of three companies successfully tested an innovative application of software and hardware that will give accurate, real time data to commanders on the ground. The technology also holds great potential to more effectively and safely respond to emergencies, such as forest fires, and other situations where accurate and timely information is often lacking.
