New program aims to boost small business in Montana

You can call them the silent majority.
Eighty percent of Montana businesses have 20 or fewer employees. Owners are often so busy running the business that they have no time for training to advance employee skills and boost productivity.
Yet government programs designed to boost Montana's economy often focus on attracting new businesses. An attempt to pass a bill in the last state legislative session that would have funded employee training for existing businesses fell through.
So Department of Labor and Industry Commissioner Keith Kelly cobbled together $250,000 for a pilot program based in Billings.
