Guest column: Dropping Montana SAT scores show something isn't working

Near the end of a recent opinion article (Missoulian, July 5), state Rep. Roger Koopman, R-Bozeman, noted that Montana college entrance examination scores have been plummeting while those in other states rise. And he observed that the drop has occurred even while government spending on our state's public schools continues to increase.
The Scholastic Aptitude Test, or SAT, is the nation's most popular college-entrance examination. Data published by the College Board, which administers the SAT, confirm Koopman's claim. In a nutshell, here's what the data show:
