While this might provide some short term relief/advancements to the area I find it unlikely to fix the woes of Butte. The area should first and formost concentrate on maintaining a sound affordable educational institute, which they already have. Mind you not just the associate degree programs that Governor Schweitzer advocates. Second improve Butte's core city infrastructure/businesses. Though I'm skeptical of development termed Incremental Tax Districts that Billings has implemented it has revitalized key areas and brought in new businesses. I have rode my bike around most of Butte on a stay during a trip and it has some wonderfull buildings, many empty. It would be a shame if all that history was lost to brick collectors. Whatever solutions the Butte-Silver Bow commissioners think are going to be solved by Washington DC money will like the money eventually dry up and then they will be on their own again. |
