Railroads, Eastern Washington, Warren Buffet and Connecting the Dots
May 31, 2007 /
In case you haven’t noticed, Washington state increasingly is becoming bullish about railroads. Good thing, too, because Warren Buffett, the Sage of Omaha, happens to like them, too. By way of context, Buffett recently became the largest shareholder in Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp., the railroad company that provides rail service to ports in Bellingham, Everett, Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, Kalama, Longview and Vancouver. Omaha, Neb.-based Berkshire Hathaway increased its stake in Fort Worth-based BNSF to 39 million shares from about 37.4 million. That means Buffet now owns a 10.9 percent stake in BNSF.
