Economic education council offers scholarships to Montana teachers for June 18-20 workshop

The Montana Council on Economic Education is offering scholarships to Montana teachers interested in attending a summer workshop worth one graduate credit at Montana State University.

"Economics 500-Applied Economic Education," set June 18-20 at MSU, is a workshop designed for teachers of social studies, business, mathematics, consumer and family science and other teaching disciplines.

The workshop includes instruction on key issues impacting Montana’s economy, from school funding and performance to Montana taxes and spending. It also will include standard economic issues such as scarcity, incentives and opportunity costs.

Teachers also can train on the High School Business Challenge and the Stock Market Game simulations, both programs in Montana schools.

Attendees will be among the first to review the recently completed Economic Learning Modules that soon will be available to high schools throughout Montana. ELMs are turnkey lesson plans that address Montana’s economic education standards. They may be used as individual stand-alone lesson plans or as a complete economics curriculum.

Full scholarships are available that provide housing, meals, materials and the full cost of one graduate credit. There is a $25 refundable registration fee.
