Idaho cities hope to revamp downtowns with inbuilding collaborations between private and public businesses.

NAMPA, Idaho – City leaders in the southwestern Idaho cities of Nampa and Caldwell say plans to renovate downtown areas will rely on partnerships with private entities.

Cliff Long, economic development director for Nampa, says the practice of having governments and private businesses both using the same buildings is increasing around the country.

He says that by having both in one building, each saves money and businesses benefit from potential customers drawn by the public offices.

Caldwell has plans for its new City Hall to include private shops and restaurants, and perhaps even housing.

Officials in Nampa might allow retail shops at that city’s new library.
