Sen. Max Baucus keeps national spotlight on Montana

This week the national media spotlight is trained on Montana U.S. Sen. Max Baucus. http://baucus.senate.gov/

Montana burst into the national political spotlight in the 2004 election when Brian Schweitzer http://governor.mt.gov/ ended a 16-year run of Republicans in the governor’s office.

Jon Tester http://tester.senate.gov/ kept us there last year with his victory over veteran Republican U.S. Sen. Conrad Burns. Why, in a sea of red states, was Montana turning a shade of purple?

Now journalists at CNN, the New York Times and other media titans are routinely dialing the 406 area code.

For a state like Montana, so often invisible in national policymaking and media coverage, it’s heady stuff.
