University of Montana president, George Dennison, discusses higher education in Bitterroot

University of Montana President George Dennison outlined plans for higher education in the Bitterroot Valley in speeches to two local groups this week.

“With regard to the proposal to create a community college, that is an issue you all have to decide for yourselves,” he told Lions members Tuesday.

Dennison said courses from the UM-COT are already being offered at Hamilton High School and have been very successful. He noted that about 25 people took lab-technician courses in the fall. Another 25 took them in the spring. They are designed to help fill new jobs at GlaxoSmithKline’s pharmaceutical plant that is expanding, nearly doubling its workforce.
