Summit Aeronautics of Helena, Montana grows to meet commercial, defense contracting needs

The steel framework is in place as Summit Aeronautics http://www.summitengr.com/ anticipates completion of 50,000 square feet of machining space attached to its plant east of the airport terminal.

Even as the current expansion of Summit’s facility is under way, Hoffman has his eyes on a bigger building still. Plans are already on paper, he said, to expand to the south and west, with an ultimate capacity for the facility of some 300,000 square feet, or more than twice the size of Costco.

The space will be needed, Hoffman said, as production of the F-35 ramps up and the timeline for delivering parts grows tighter.

“It’s really a good market right now, and we’re going to try to capture as much of that as we can without capturing too much,” he said. “It’s a fine line.”
