State entices with tax rebates. Utah’s economic development initiative could result in $4 billion windfall in tax revenues

Bear Paw Development Corporation is a private non-profit organization created for the purpose of administering programs to help improve regional economic conditions in Hill, Blaine, Liberty, Chouteau and Phillips Counties and the Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy's Indian Reservations.

The state has awarded $67 million in tax rebates over the past 1 1/2 years to entice 28 companies to relocate to Utah, creating 8,000 new jobs, officials in the Governor’s Office of Economic Development reported Friday.

If market conditions remain strong over the next decade, state tax revenues could grow to more than $4 billion from these current economic development initiatives, said Michael Nelson, managing director of the state Recruitment and Incentives program.
