Employers scramble to fill jobs — ‘just like the go-go days’

As human resources chief at San Francisco’s Esurance Inc., Sandy Hynes oversees hiring at a company in full-throttle growth mode. The web-based provider of auto insurance employs 230 people in the city and wants to add another 90 this year.

But Hynes has a predicament.

The bulk of new positions in San Francisco are for technology jobs, and she’s having trouble filling them. The Bay Area’s tech talent pool is thinning, the time to fill jobs is lengthening and promising job candidates are getting multiple job offers.
