Flathead Valley, Montana : Scarce development land drives prices

Flathead Valley, Mont., is known for such recreational treasures as Glacier National Park, Flathead Lake and Big Mountain ski resort. Only about 20% of the land in the area is privately owned; the rest is either parkland or timberland. The scarcity of land to develop is a big reason property prices in northwest Montana jumped about 16% last year.
