Working Together – Aligning State Systems and Policies for Individual and Regional Prosperity

In the globally competitive economy of the 21st
century, state economies in large part will thrive or
decline based on how well they cultivate and retain
“knowledge workers”: individuals who possess
postsecondary educational credentials (though not
necessarily a bachelor degree), technical aptitudes,
the ability to learn rapidly, and an entrepreneurial
approach to employment. To produce workers with
these skills, states will need to do the following:
