It’s tempting but futile for Montana to manage growth one subdivision at a time. Bozeman to offer classes to learn the lingo of planning.

Scarcely a day passes in western Montana without some new skirmish in the subdivision wars. Today it might be a clash before a county planning board, tomorrow a legal bombshell dropped in District Court or a fusillade of bills introduced in the Legislature. Demand for housing and the profit potential dangling in front of landowners and developers create seemingly irreconcilable differences with Montanans who are determined to keep things the way they are, the way they like them.

City to offer a Bozeman 2020 plan class

Does city planning lingo such as "R-4 zoning" and "major arterial" leave you scratching your head?

If so, you’re not alone.

Starting in January, the city of Bozeman will attempt to demystify and explain its planning process with its new three-week City-Smart Bozemanite class.

The class will focus on the city’s 2020 Community Plan, which outlines planning principles and expectations for the coming years.
