October 20, 2006View for printing

Sibyl Govan, NRIS Projects Manager at the Montana State Library, and Dr. Catherine Maynard, State Geospatial Analyst for the Natural Resources Conservation Service, are scheduled to present, "MontanaView: Satellite Imagery and Remote Sensing" at an NRIS seminar set for Thursday, October 26, 2006.† Their presentation will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the Grizzly Conference Room of the State Library at 1515 East 6th Avenue in Helena.

MontanaView is a consortium of universities, non-profit organizations and government agencies working within Montana to advance the availability and timely distribution of remotely sensed data and applications.

Partnering with the Montana State Library, MontanaView has produced an archive of over 200 Landsat Thematic Mapper images that are now in the public domain and can be downloaded for free. Other features of the MontanaView Web site include curricula for K-16 teachers and a list of resources for those interested in remote sensing.

The presentation will demonstrate how remote sensing is being used in Montana and how the public can access the new MontanaView imagery archive from any computer.

The public is invited to attend. This seminar is free; no registration is necessary. For more information, call (406) 444-5357. Interested individuals are also encouraged to visit the NRIS Web site at http://nris.mt.gov.
