Purdue study sees trees as possible source of ethanol

It's common to hear about turning corn into fuel, but what about trees?
Researchers at Purdue University are fiddling with poplar tree genes, attempting to produce trees that could grow fast and yield as much as 1,000 gallons of ethanol an acre. They might be planted in rows on land taken out of corn or soybean production for a while.
