Billionaire, Tom Siebel, honored for professional, social impact by University of Montana School of Business

Billionaire and part-time Montana resident Tom Siebel provided job-hunting advice and a crash course on his Montana Meth Project to a room full of entrepreneurs and University of Montana School of Business students at an awards ceremony on campus Thursday night.

Nearly 180 business students, faculty and members of the western Montana community attended the 2006 Lewis and Clark Pioneer in Industry Awards, which honored Siebel and the late William Allen, former president and CEO of Boeing Co.

Siebel, founder and former chief executive officer of Siebel Systems – a software company he sold last year for $5.85 billion – told the future entrepreneurs in the crowd that, were he looking to break into a field today, he would shun the computer world in favor of the biotechnology or energy industries. Those are the businesses positioned to offer the biggest opportunities in coming years, he said.
