Secret shopping check is a scam

The Shopping Group Inc. in Kitchener, Ontario, has come onto our radar. A consumer almost got involved with a work-at-home offer of secret shopping, and came to find that it had all the components of a counterfeit check payment forward wire fraud scam.

This company is sending people unsolicited letters stating their program.

Enclosed is a check for $4,900 that tells you to deposit it, keep some of it for yourself, and spend the rest according to their rules, which includes shopping at Wal-Mart and using wire transfer through Western Union.

The required "spending spree" is bogus, and the check they send, if copied on a copier, says VOID across it.
