Great Falls business improvement group downgrading leadership post- Frustrated search to fill job vacancy spurs new approach

The downtown Great Falls Business Improvement District will seek a lower paid executive assistant after board members opted Thursday not to hire a director seeking a benefits package of nearly $90,000.

For nearly a year, the board has been trying to find a replacement for executive director Greg Madson, who announced he was leaving last summer to teach full-time at the University of Great Falls.

Early this summer the BID selected a Bozeman man, Jeff Graff, at $50,000. He quit after one day after being accepted into a doctorate program in Colorado.

Selection committee members said last month they weren’t satisfied with the background experience of nine other applicants.
