Butte plant getting boost. $50 million project will increase polysilicon production at REC Silicon

Renewable Energy Corp. http://recgroup.com/ is planning a $50 million project that will boost polysilicon production at its Butte plant, company officials said Thursday.

“These changes are going to reduce costs, and that’s going to help employees secure long-term job security,” said Dave Seburn, vice president of REC Silicon.

The project, expected to be completed in 2008, may result in new jobs, but Seburn said he is unsure how many, when or what types.

“There’s likely going to be some future opportunities,” he said.
