Regents to hear two proposals for colleges in Bitterroot

Two Montana Board of Regents meetings – one next week and another in November – will likely go a long way toward determining the future of higher education in the Bitterroot Valley.

The Workforce Development Committee, made up of board members, will hear two short presentations next Wednesday in Butte regarding the establishment of a college in Ravalli County, potentially in Hamilton. The Board of Regents, as a whole, will discuss the proposals the following day.

The first presentation will come from a group of Ravalli County residents that proposed the establishment of a community college district. The Bitterroot Valley Community College (BVCC) Exploratory Committee formed in February and is made up of local business and education officials. The group has made numerous presentations in the last few months on establishing a community college in Ravalli County. Members are also in the midst of a petition drive to put the organization of a community college district to voters next spring.
