Tour promotes higher education in Montana

Helena-area high school students got a taste of university life Tuesday, when a handful of professors from the University of Montana taught at Capital High and Helena High schools.

In Sandy Wardell’s science classes at HHS, students were treated to a presentation on bees by UM chemistry professor Garon Smith, who is conducting research on the insects.

Smith told the students how honey bees are being used to detect the presence of landmines, explosives and drug labs, Wardell said.
