ProDril founder defends company. Headed to jail, Curlett says he’s confident returns will come

ProDril founder Harry "Hal" Curlett, sentenced Aug. 25 to four months in prison after pleading guilty to one federal felony count of conspiracy to sell unregistered securities, said he wants shareholders to have accurate information about the company and his efforts on their behalf.

When contacted recently by The Gazette, Curlett said he was speaking out after nearly a year of silence while his case was pending "not with the intent of restoring my good name, but because it’s the right thing to do" for investors.

During his discussion of the events surrounding the collapse of ProDril, Curlett acknowledged making "a mistake," but said many investors did not fully consider the risks. He said he believes they will still be made whole, and possibly will see a sizable return on their investments.

Jerry L. Ward, president and chief operating officer of TerraWatt Development, said Curlett was not an officer or shareholder in the company, though the TerraWatt Web site lists Curlett as its director of technology.
