Nearly 60 Percent of Tech Workers Looking for New Jobs, Says Survey

Labor Day 2006 finds many technology workers restless over their current job situation and actively searching for new opportunities, according to the results of a survey released today by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA). The survey of nearly 1,000 information technology (IT) workers found that 58 percent are currently looking for new jobs. Four out of five tech workers looking for new jobs said their job search is somewhat or very active.

Higher pay is the number one reason why tech workers are scouring career Web sites and help-wanted ads. The desire for more money was cited by 73 percent of individuals seeking new positions as their reason for doing so. But the CompTIA survey also indicates that IT professionals are interested in more than just their paychecks. Nearly two-thirds of tech workers said there is no opportunity for advancement in their current job; while 58 percent said they are looking for a new challenge.
