MSU College Of Business Hosts Annual Family Business Day Sept. 22, Bozeman, MT

The Montana State University College of Business will host its 13th annual Family Business Day on Friday, Sept. 22, at the Gallatin Gateway Inn.

The day begins at 9:00 and ends at 1:30. There will be a seminar in the morning and a luncheon and awards ceremony following.

Omar Shehryar, MSU’s College of Business faculty member and a specialist in marketing management and retailing, will be the featured speaker during the event.

Shehryar’s seminar will focus on market research techniques that can give family-owned businesses a better understanding of their customers’ needs without breaking the bank. He will include tips on obtaining market research data for free or low cost, avoiding common biases in data analysis, and making market research an ongoing operation in a family owned business regardless of its size. As much as possible, Shehryar will use scenarios from the participants’ businesses to come up with practical examples.

Shehryar received his undergraduate degree in engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology in Lahore, Pakistan, his MBA from Lahore University of Management Science in Lahore and his doctorate in business administration from the University of Missouri in Columbia. His research focuses on the effectiveness of fear appeals in advertising and he has published in prestigious marketing journals

Family Business Day is sponsored by State Farm Insurance in honor of Robert Jaedicke and also supported by Combs Law Firm and Montana Chamber of Commerce. Stockman Bank is underwriting the annual Family Business awards that will be announced at the luncheon.

The cost for the seminar and awards luncheon is $25. For reservations or for more information, call (406) 994-6796 or e-mail [email protected] by Sept. 15.
