Computers, new programs reach Lame Deer high school students
In Lame Deer schools, there are two computers for every child, and at the high school level, Web-based software is heavily used for instruction and testing. Technology is integrated into almost every subject.
"The kids here are very technology literate," said Superintendent Gary Scott. "They might struggle academically, but they can do anything on a computer."
A new computer-based alternative learning program is taking off. The Alternative Learning Center opened in January for students in fifth through 12th grades who lost credit in core classes or who have dropped out and want to return to school and graduate. The students work at their own pace, and when they need help, a teacher is there.
