Sheridan, Montana gets free Internet service. Benefactor gives wireless access to downtown area

“People are going to be attracted to an up-and-coming town,” he said. “If you’re going to attract businesses to the town, you’ve got to give people the image that there’s something worth coming to.” Towns that offer free wireless Internet often get included on lists that recreational travelers use when planning their trips. Pohl is hoping some of those people will reconsider their route to Yellowstone National Park and pass through the Ruby Valley.

SHERIDAN — This quaint little ranching town has joined the high-tech world.

Anyone can now access free wireless Internet in downtown Sheridan. The free service was installed by John Pohl, a Seattle businessman who owns property in the Ruby Valley and just completed renovation of a downtown office building in Sheridan.

Pohl said this week he wanted to help the town. But he also has a business interest in seeing Sheridan step into the 21st century.
