The Big Sky Economic Development Corporation Begins Incentive Fund to Entice Companies to Billings.

Development Corporation (EDC) is ending its fiscal year with $55,000 to put into an incentive fund with the hope of being able to use it in the future to entice companies to Billings.

The EDC is a non-profit organization with about 80 local businesses who as members have contributed to its support. It is a sister organization to the Big Sky Economic Development Agency (BSEDA), a county government agency, which helps fund EDC.

In making the announcement at the regular monthly meeting of EDC, Chairwoman, Patrice Elliott said that from the very beginning EDC members have talked about such an incentive fund being “critical” in order to compete in the game of business recruitment. “We were very fortunate to attract Ernest Health Inc. , with no incentives. That doesn’t happen very often. It is extremely rare not to have to write a check,” she said.

Ernest Health Inc. held ground breaking ceremonies, last week, on the 3500 block of Gabel Road for a 40 bed, state-of-the-art long-term acute care hospital. The $14 million facility is expected to employ over 100 people and spend one to two million dollars annually in the local economy. It is a facility that will treat patients recovering from strokes, head and spinal cord injuries and other functional deficiencies as a result of injury or illness.
