Funding opportunities and advice await entrepreneurs at the 8th Annual Intermountain Venture Forum in Boise, ID Sept. 26-27

The eighth annual Intermountain Venture Forum (IVF), scheduled for September 26-27 at the Boise Centre on the Grove in downtown Boise, is now accepting applications for companies interested in presenting. The 2006 program will feature keynote presentations by Steve Appleton, Chairman, CEO and President of Micron Technology, Inc. and Paul Maeder, co-Founder and Managing General Partner of Highland Capital Partners.

Layne Simmons was surprised at the impact the event had on her engineering firm, TenXsys Inc. "It helped us hone our message, we made connections that are still benefiting us today, and we did come away with an investor," said Simmons, vice president of TenXsys, which presented at the 2005 conference. "We also received very valuable feedback that we put immediately into play. Our company has more potential today than it did before the IVF."

The Forum, presented by the Boise Valley Economic Partnership, connects some of the region’s most promising new companies and the West’s top investors. Each year, dozens of start up firms go through an application process to be chosen to present at the event. Companies that are selected are invited to an exclusive dinner with venture capitalists and also receive performance coaching with their presentations by a volunteer group of executives with a background in early stage companies and funding. In addition to the presenting companies, each year the IVF features panels of leading experts in venture funding and angel investment. In 2005, the forum featured 14 presenting companies from six Western states and attracted more than 25 of the West’s top institutional investors. Submitting an application is free of charge.

An added feature to this year’s event is the first annual Stoel Rives Idaho Innovation Awards Program, presented by the Idaho Office of Science & Technology. This new statewide awards program recognizes innovations and the Idaho companies that created them. Finalists and a winner will be recognized in each category during a special Awards Luncheon held in conjunction with IVF on September 26.

Dedicated Devices Inc. of Boise has presented twice over the years and each time has received subsequent funding, said co-founder and executive vice president Jeff Moeser. "The IVF attracts a premier caliber of resources from angel and institutional capital to legal and mentoring assistance from the intermountain region and Pacific Northwest," said Moeser. "For the past several years the IVF has emerged as one of the very best regional events of its type and is a must attend event for companies from the seed stage and onwards."

MobileDataforce, which also recently received major investment, credits the event with propelling the firm forward. "The Intermountain Venture Forum enabled me to improve my business plan, understand how to prepare financial information, create a concise presentation for investors and better understand investor motives," said CEO Kevin Benedict.

The application deadline for entrepreneurs to present is September 15. For information, go online to http://www.ivfboise.org or call James Grunke, Director of The Boise Valley Economic Partnership, at (208) 472-5232.
