Luminaries from the worlds of business, politics and academia are converging on Aspen this week for the second annual Aspen Ideas Festival.

Public events include a discussion Thursday by Alan Greenspan, the former chairman of the Federal Reserve, on "Oil and Gas: The Next 50 Years." Also Thursday, former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and current Justice Stephen Breyer will talk on "The Independence of the Judiciary."

Nearly 200 speakers were invited to the festival by the Aspen Institute, the Washington, D.C.-based think tank headed by Walter Isaacson, former chief executive of CNN.
