MotivePower Inc. rides rails to success. Boise company lands 2 more multimillion dollar contracts

Business is booming at MotivePower Inc., a Boise company that manufactures and designs locomotives.

The company, which makes new trains and repairs old ones for freight and commuter railroads, has nearly doubled its workforce in two years — from 350 employees in mid-2004 to 650 now, said Mark Warner, vice president and general manager.

MotivePower had to increase its workforce as it landed new contracts with several commuter agencies, freight companies and other locomotive manufacturers.
