Wyoming Governor Buchanan targets energy school. Asks for $40MM to recruit professors and researchers for UW’s new School of Energy Resources

University of Wyoming President Tom Buchanan said he wants the university to spend all of its initial proceeds from a new $40 million faculty endowment on recruiting professors and researchers for UW’s new School of Energy Resources.

"I want every penny of that money for the energy school," Buchanan said, admitting it’s tempting to spread the money among several departments. "I think we’re much better off focusing on a world-class program."

Buchanan spoke at the Wyoming Mining Association’s 51st annual convention on Thursday here at Jackson Lake Lodge. The convention continues today.

The faculty endowment is part of a $105 million package created along with the $400 million Hathaway Scholarship endowment by the Legislature in 2005. Community colleges and vocational schools also share in the faculty endowment.
