Branding Oregon. Leaders dream of bringing more businesses to state

The governor’s sales pitch, which ran in California newspapers and Alaska Airlines’ in-flight magazine, mixes quality of life with no-nonsense benefits for business.

"Come for a week. Stay forever," says the ad featuring Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski.

"Everybody loves Oregon," Kulongoski extols in the advertisement, along with its lower energy costs and workers’ compensation rates that are half of California’s.

It’s too early to tell how many California businesses are seriously interested in expanding or relocating to Oregon, but the advertising has generated at least 125 leads that state economic development officials are tracking.

Can a marketing campaign bring money and jobs to Oregon?
