Non-profits also need to make profit

Non-profit organizations exist to serve the public interest, but their mission does not absolve them of the need to be financially savvy.

That was the message Bonny Beach, founder and chief executive officer of the American Indian Prevention Coalition, stressed in a speech before members of the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Arizona on Friday afternoon.

Beach spoke on the topic of "How Non-Profits Create Business Development" at the chamber’s monthly meeting at Casino Arizona on the Salt River Reservation near Scottsdale. One of the biggest challenges of heading a non-profit, Beach said, is securing sufficient funding to execute the organization’s most vital functions.
