Developers eye massive subdivision in Flathead Valley of Montana

If it weren’t for the price of wheat, no one would be talking about building what amounts to a whole new city north of Kalispell.

“The general problem facing large landowners in Flathead County is that agriculture has become a losing proposition,” said Hank Galpin. “Everybody’s looking for an exit strategy.”
Including Galpin, who’s been farming his patch alongside U.S. Highway 93 since the early 1970s.

He’s done it all, raising a whole host of crops over the years to make ends meet – “just about everything that came along, we tried,” he said.

Now, he’s selling the farm to a real estate developer, and while he might not like the idea too much, Galpin is, once again, ready to try something new.
