Microsoft targets ‘Billings’ company

Too-good-to-be-true prices on software from an Internet company with a Billings address have attracted thousands of buyers and a lawsuit from Microsoft Corp.

A CD of Microsoft Windows XP Professional costs $300 at one retail store in Billings.

EDirectSoftware’s Web site sells the program for $115.

Microsoft of Redmond, Wash., recently filed a civil lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Billings accusing eDirectSoftware of eight counts of software piracy and violation of trademark and copyright laws. The Montana case is one of eight similar lawsuits the software giant brought during the first three months of 2006.
