Keeping training on track. Montana Training programs pay off with tech jobs; funds are needed to keep ball rolling

Technical jobs in Belgrade. Mining jobs in Butte. Claims processing jobs in Great Falls.

A state program that provides money to help train workers has played a key role in bringing hundreds of new jobs to Montana in recent years.

But economic developers and state officials say that the state needs more money for the training program. Failing to boost funding puts Montana at increasing risk of losing jobs to other states.

There is simply not enough money to go around, most agree.

"Montana is a little late to the table," said Dick King, newly elected president of the Montana Economic Developers Association http://www.medamembers.org/ .
